Paramount logo over the years..
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
I still get a chill when the stars fly into the frame. does anyone else try to count them as they enter? These studio logos are just so epic.

Another thing that hasn't change much.. MGM logo...
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
I love how this hasn't really changed over the years.. and we all accept it, no matter how bizarre a lion framed with a graphic while roaring is. Enjoy.
I was surprized to learn that the different lions have different names.

Sexy Fairy Tale girls by J Scott Campbell...
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
I'll admit that I'm a fan of Campbell's work, ever since Gen-13 back in the day. He's the king of drawing sexy, leggy, slender, big breasted gravity defying woman.. comic geeks dream girls.. and you have to admit they hold a ridiculous appeal. Enjoy.
okay.. little red above may be my favorite.

More Classic Skate mag print ads..
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
All graphics by Jim Phillips, of course. These are from Thrasher mag, circa 1988-89. This is an addition to my past post.. I love the one with the maggots in the toothpaste, it was on my wall when i was 16, and I remember my mom being totally grossed out by it.

Home at last.. sketching on airplane..
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
Got home to Montauk from Singapore last Sunday, and I've been doing next to nothing for a week solid. Laying around enjoying (or not) the rain and the cold, letting my skate injuries heal. I love the contrast of the two places I live and work. Below.. airplanes are great for sketching, and given a 20 hour flight, that's exactly what i did to stay occupied:

Crazy Tattoos..
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
I spent the morning looking up different types of tattoos for a character I'm designing.. dug up some crazy images. I don't have any tattoos, and probably never will.. just not my thing. But I have to admit that I have a certain fascination with them, and their "forever" quality.. enjoy.
I wonder if this chick above saw bill's "idiots and angels"??
Above.. quite a bit more than a "tramp stamp".. one must wonder what it will look like when she's 80.
I do like the reveal type of tattoo.. like you have demons under your skin.. or spiderman.. or whatever.

Classic Skate mag ads..
POSTED BY:
Patrick Smith
This is just hyper nostalgia. Good times back in the day, drooling over every page of thrasher or Transworld. Getting to the end of the mag and just starting right again.. a lot of these can be found in the epic book of Jim Phillips artwork that i've blogged about several times. 25 years of skating.. yikes.. it hurts SO much more now when i slam. enjoy a shred of my past.
Guerrero made us all feel tons better about not having a vert ramp available.. he was pretty much the first "street skater".. him and gonz.
Variflex was crap btw.. they sold their shitty decks to toys r us and stores like that around 1986.. these ads stopped appearing in mags by 87.
I stole these wheels featured in the ad above from the skate shop i worked at in high school.. "wheels of wellesley".. my boss, a real cool guy, Brian, caught me and brushed it off like it was nothing. I still feel guilty 25 years later. but i was broke and i needed some ramp wheels!!
dang.. i remember this corey obrien ad above.. i remember that ALL I WANTED was a little run down house like this with a mini ramp in back. life was simple.
I used to copy this witch doctor guy in this ad above.. it's when i was first was getting into art. i used a character similar to this Jim Phillips dude in my new film just this year! AND below.. had to post this one.. Jim phillips, rob roskopp designs got me through high school.
