Classic Tuesday Inspiration: Edgar Degas Drawings..

"No art was ever less spontaneous than mine. What I do is the result of reflection and of the study of the great masters; of inspiration, spontaneity, temperament, I know nothing."-Degas
Thought I would post my collection of Degas drawings I've been putting together for my drawing class. There's some good ones in here, it was difficult to find drawings NOT of dancers (over half of his work was of ballet dancers).

Two images above, drawings of Manet, good friend, legend has it they met while copying the same Velazquez painting in the Louvre. (not to be confused with Monet, whom he disliked.. also on the dislike list was Renoir.)

Degas never married, and spent the last years of his life, nearly blind, restlessly wandering the streets of Paris before dying in 1917.  Kind of like Bill:)  just kidding, Bills eyesight is fine.

  2. There were a few Degas works in the Musee d'Orsay exhibit late last year in S.F. Magnificent work. Spent a lot of time in front of those images.
